From the beginning of time, our Creator authored light to separate the darkness (Genesis 1:3). As we follow Christ, we are following the Light sent into the world to shine on our dark paths, dispelling fear, and leading us to new levels of obedience and trust.

Key Verse: When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

  • Monday – Following Him isn’t always easy or necessarily fun. Without warning, storms can threaten to capsize us, and we can begin to wonder if Jesus is sleeping through our storms. But it’s in the storm we learn how to truly sail. Are you facing a storm, big or small? Remember, the winds and waves still obey His voice.
    •   Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed him. Without warning, a furious storm came upon the lake, so the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. Matthew 8:23-24
  • Tuesday – Not only does Christ tell us to follow Him, but He also promises to go before us. The caveat is we must listen as He calls us by name and lead us by His voice. Today, spend time focusing on the “voices” you are listening to and following. The voice we heed to is the voice we follow.
    • He calls His sheep by name and leads them out. When He has brought out all of His own, He goes on ahead of them, and His sheep follow because they know His voice. John 10:3-4
  • Wednesday – Distance from Christ creates room for error. The fear that kept Peter following at a distance eventually led him to deny Christ. When we allow distance, we too deny Him lordship over areas of our life. Before we can bridge the gap and follow closely, we have to determine the fear or barricade. Is it fear of what He will ask you to do? Leave behind? Something else?
    •  But Peter followed at a distance. Matthew 26:58
  • Thursday – Others are desperately watching our actions to see if our faith is real. Whether it’s our children, family members, or a stranger in the grocery line, they are perceiving the truth we believe through our deeds. If someone were to follow your example, would it glorify God or hinder your witness for Christ?
    • Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
  • Friday – Can you imagine being told to leave your comfort zone, support system, and all you’ve known to follow Him to an unknown land? Abram didn’t have a map, Google directions, or our trusty iPhone GPS and yet, he didn’t allow the comfort of the known keep him from heading to a promised land full of unknowns. Where is the Lord asking you to follow in faith? What seems to be holding you back? Write a statement of commitment, committing to walk it out in obedience, leaving the results to Him.
    • Then the Lord said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people, and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. Genesis 12:1
