In a socially savvy society, by default, we learn to drown out the awareness of God. As we enter a new year with new plans, new purposes, and new passion, let’s focus on keeping a keen awareness of God’s presence, His desires, and leading. The following verses and prayer prompts are designed to be a focal point as you go about your day.

Key Verse: When Jacob awoke from his sleep, he thought, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it.” Genesis 28:16

  • Monday – Today, spend time thanking God for the perfect gift of Christ and His unchanging nature. Ask Him to make you more aware of the beautiful gifts in your life — family, provision, friends, protection, etc.
    • Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. James 1:17
  • Tuesday – Express your desire to be keenly aware of the voices you listen to as you go about your day, drowning out any voices that compete with His.
    • Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24
    • Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation
  • Wednesday – When we face battles or have a hard day, we can forget “greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.” Like Elisha, ask God to open your eyes so that you may see His resources and protection all around you.
    • “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:16-17
  • Thursday – God is everywhere. He knew every detail about every day of your life before one of them came to be. Seek to be aware of His guiding hand and alert to any plans that do not align with His.
    • Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalm 139:7-10
  • Friday – In the fast lane of life, it’s hard to slow down and be aware of the surrounding needs. Today and this weekend, strive to fulfill the law of Christ by seeking to meet the needs He brings to your awareness.
    • Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
