While the highest heavens cannot contain our God (1 Kings 8:27), we are given powerful descriptions of His character throughout Scripture. With many of the same attributes and names also used to refer to Jesus, I pray these Bible Verses on the Names of God and Jesus reveal a grander picture of the power in His name. The names of God found in the Bible are a great addition to your prayer journal!
God Almighty
- In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
- When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless… Genesis 17:1
- And God said to him, “I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply. A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come from your own body. Genesis 35:11
- We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, who is and who was, for you have taken your great power and begun to reign. Revelation 11:17
- Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Revelation 15:3
God Most High
- And Melchizedek, king of Salem, brought out bread and wine. (He was priest of God Most High.) Genesis 14:18
- That they may know that you alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 83:18
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace
- For to us, a child is born, to us, a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
Alpha and Omega | First and Last
- Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first, and I am the last; besides me, there is no god. Isaiah 44:6
- “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8
- When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last… Revelation 1:17
- “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: ‘The words of the first and the last, who died and came to life. Revelation 2:8
- And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty, I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. Revelation 21:6
- I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Revelation 22:13
One and Only True God
- To you, it was shown that you might know that the Lord is God; there is no other besides him. Deuteronomy 4:35
- “Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. Isaiah 45:22
- Declare and present your case; let them take counsel together! Who told this long ago? Who declared it of old? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no other god besides me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none besides me. Isaiah 45:21
- “You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he. Before me, no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me. Isaiah 43:10
- And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. John 17:3
Word of God
- In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was at the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:1-3
- And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
- He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. Revelation 19:13

Lord our Righteousness
- In his days, Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’ Jeremiah 23:6
God of Heaven and Earth
- Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever. Psalm 136:26
- And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day, the Lord will be one and his name one. Zechariah 14:9
God of Seeing
- So she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, “You are a God of seeing,” for she said, “Truly here I have seen him who looks after me.” Genesis 16:13
God of Salvation
- “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord, God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.” Isaiah 12:2
Shepherd
- “‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’” Matthew 2:6
- I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:11
- For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. 1 Peter 2:25
- And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. 1 Peter 5:4
- A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1
- To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Testimony. Of Asaph, a Psalm. Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock! You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. Psalm 80:1
Immanuel, God with us
- Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
- “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:23
King of kings and Lord of lords
- For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe. Deuteronomy 10:17
- Which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords… 1 Timothy 6:15
- They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.” Revelation 17:14
- On his robe and his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. Revelation 19:1
Lord Is Peace
- Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it, The Lord Is Peace. To this day, it still stands at Ophrah, which belongs to the Abiezrites. Judges 6:24
Lord, your Healer
- Saying, “If you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.” Exodus 15:26
Messiah | Jesus Christ
- He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). John 1:41
- She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
- And every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:11
- My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 John 2:1

Everlasting Rock
- Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:4
- “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity just and upright is he. Deuteronomy 32:4
- And all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:4
- You shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept, and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. Isaiah 30:29
Everlasting God
- Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beersheba and called there on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God. Genesis 21:33
Everlasting King
- But the Lord is the true God; he is the living God and the everlasting King. At his wrath, the earthquakes, and the nations cannot endure his indignation. Jeremiah 10:10
Great High Priest
- “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.” Hebrews 4:14
I AM
- Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:13-14
- Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”John 8:58
Mediator
- For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1 Timothy 2:5
Light of the World
- Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Righteous Judge
- Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that Day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8
- And I heard the altar saying, “Yes, Lord God the Almighty, true and just are your judgments!” Revelation 16:7
Lord, the Provider
- So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” Genesis 22:14
King of Ages
- To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:17
The Way, Truth, and Life
- Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
Blessed Hope
- Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ… Titus 2:13
Lion of the Tribe of Judah
- And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” Revelation 5:5
Holy
- “Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy. Leviticus 19:2

- “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29
- Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth, and wisdom, and might, and honor, and glory, and blessing!” Revelation 5:12
The Amen
- “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation. Revelation 3:14
Faithful Witness
- And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him, who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood. Revelation 1:5
Author and Perfecter of Faith
Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
