They came out of nowhere! My husband, daughter and her friend had just gotten home with some delicious dinner. We unpacked it, sat down, said Grace, and began enjoying dinner when, out of the blue, we were attacked!\u00a0Twelve to thirteen of the peskiest<\/em> big flies flooded the dining room. My husband grabbed a flyswatter as the girls (seven and eight years old) shrieked, trying everything they could to cover up the target\u2026their food.<\/p>\n

Now I have to admit, I became a little \u201cgirly\u201d myself displaying some graceful moves that, I\u2019m sure, would have earned a part in a Michael Jackson video. For the next 15 minutes the place was filled with laughing and shrieking, followed by more laughing as my husband, with sniper-like precision, well, \u201cneutralized\u201d each and every one of them.<\/p>\n

Needless to say, my appetite was quite shot after watching fly carcasses literally \u201cfly\u201d across the room.<\/p>\n

Isn\u2019t that life?<\/strong> <\/em>You\u2019re going through the day-to-day motions of life, enjoying your \u201cdinner\u201d, when, out of the blue, these pesky circumstances, beyond your control, both big and small, begin to swarm and launch a full-on attack.<\/p>\n

While it may not be easy to pick up a flyswatter and \u201cwipe out\u201d the pest, I am sure of this; our God is always beside us<\/em>. He will never leave us or forsake us AND we\u00a0have a choice<\/strong>.\u00a0We can complain about interrupted \u201cdinners\u201d, or we can pick up our \u201cflyswatters\u201d and defeat the enemy’s attacks. But we must learn there are things we can control AND there are things we allow to control us. <\/strong>Many of the circumstances we face in our lives end up controlling us because we have not learned how to take authority over them. If we are to be trusted with more of His assignment, we must first conquer the small things. Drawing near to Him on a regular basis allows us to learn from Him.
